You want to bring your baby into the world as eco-consciously and peacefully as possible. Follow the following simple green to get you started:

Eat a Green

1) Eat a healthy, balanced, plant-based diet.

2) Buy produce that is in season.

3) Buy fruit and vegetables from local farmers.

4) Purchase organic .

5) Try to eat less meat and dairy.

6) Buy groceries that have little to no packaging and are not processed.

7) Save and cook more meals at instead of going out to eat or getting take-out.

Create a Green Nursery

1) For a solid and sustainable crib, look for one made of wood that has been treated with non-toxic paint or stain.

2) When it comes to mattresses, purchase one that is manufactured without petrochemicals like wool or organic cotton.

3) Choose natural fabrics for your baby’s sheets.

4) When washing all of your baby’s bedding, use a gentle baby detergent.

5) To find paints with low VOCs for your nursery, (volatile organic compounds) which give off chemicals and gases and create a strong smell, look for ones that are specially labeled.

6) Paint your nursery at least a weeks before your baby is born, and open the windows to air out the space.

7) Buy an air purifier for the nursery to remove household allergens, gases and chemicals.

8) For flooring, a wood floor with a non-toxic treatment is for your nursery.

9) If you want to add an area rug for extra color, choose one made from natural fibers, either wool or organic cotton.

10) Avoid using carpets in your nursery. Carpets can hold in pollutants, mold, and dust mites. Many carpets also release harmful fumes.

11) Choose a changing table made of solid, sustainable wood.

12) Decide whether to use cloth diapers or chlorine-free diapers.

Avoid using hair dyes until after your baby is born.

1) The best dry cleaners for the environment are those that don’t use the toxic solvent “perc.” This substance can build up in fatty tissue and breast milk, so it’s best to avoid it if possible. Look for an environmentally-friendly dry cleaner in your area that doesn’t use this harmful chemical.
