A growing number of people are now looking at methods
they can turn to in order to select their baby's gender. Experts
believe that there are only two legitimate procedures for selecting
your baby's gender: a method involving in vitro fertilization (IVF)
and the MicroSort sperm-sorting method, which is still in its nascent
and experimental stage.
All
the other methods, they claim, are to be done "at your own
risk". This warning has become a misnomer these days because
gender selection used to be the last resort for preventing sex-linked
diseases. This procedure was done because of medical reasons –
a couple whose genes were predisposed to certain diseases had better
chances of having a healthy baby if the gender was "pre-chosen,"
so to speak.
But unless there's a risk that the government of the country you're
living in would take away your baby if it's not of the desired gender,
what risk is there in not getting the "designer baby"
you want?
Did you know?
There are a wide variety of sex selections methods which have
not been demonstrated to be effective. Because even implausible
and ineffective methods have a "success" rate of
50%, many continued to be recommended by word of mouth.
As early as 330 BC., Aristotle prescribed the ligation (tying
off) of the left testicle in men wishing to have boys.
Some people believe that timing conception according to
astrological charts can influence a baby's sex , though there
is no evidence to support this or any other timing method.
