Acne is a common skin disease that may appear during pregnancy, mostly during the first trimester, though it can occur at other stages as well. Pregnant women with acne may notice blackheads, cysts, and pustules on the back, chest, or face.

There are a few different types of medications that are safe to use during pregnancy to help treat acne. These include erythromycin and clindamycin, which are available in both topical and oral forms. Topical forms include skin creams, while oral medications are pills that you take by mouth. If you’re not sure which type of medication is right for you, be sure to talk to your doctor or dermatologist.

It’s important to know which acne treatment medications to avoid while pregnant, as some could be harmful to the developing fetus. Retinoids, a category of anti-acne medication, are one type of medication you should stay away from while pregnant. Some commonly used retinoids for acne treatment include tretinoin, adapalene, and isotretinoin. These medications should not be used either externally or orally, as they could cause malformation of the fetus.

Acne can be treated during pregnancy with natural treatments like ice, Aloe Vera juice, rose water and lemon juice, or a paste of milk and turmeric powder. Cinnamon powder and honey can also help, as well as a mixture of sandalwood powder and honey.

A well-chosen vitamin supplement taken regularly is a safe and effective way to relieve acne during pregnancy. Vitamin A is particularly useful in reducing acne flare-ups. Vitamin B5 helps to control damaging skin discharge and reduce the appearance of acne scars. Vitamins C and E are potent antioxidants that help to reduce skin inflammation. Chromium helps to control blood sugar levels, which can play a role in the development of acne. Zinc is another effective option for healing acne infections and revitalizing damaged skin.

Pregnant women are more prone to acne due to all the hormonal changes taking place in their bodies. In order to reduce the chances of developing acne or making it worse, it’s important to follow a strict skincare routine that includes cleansing your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser, using an oil-absorbent microfiber cloth, and applying an oil-free moisturizer. You should also avoid touching your face and instead gently rub the influenced area when washing it to prevent bacteria from spreading.

Lastly, and most importantly, it’s crucial that you consume lots of water daily to help keep acne at bay during pregnancy. You should also aim to have a daily schedule for exercises. Exercises help get rid of toxins from the body and promote better blood circulation, which in turn helps the skin to tone and regain excellent health.
