Morning sickness usually begins two to four weeks after you missed your period. For some women, they experience this during the early phase of the first trimester while a few experience this at the latter part. While it is common that you will feel nauseated before breakfast, this sick feeling can still recur throughout the day, leaving you in a very unpleasant state. So, as a solution, you have to eat small, frequent meals and snacks. No matter how nauseous you feel, you have to avoid becoming very hungry or very full because this will just make you feel worse. You can start with crackers or other bland snacks, and later on eat some easy-to-digest foods like toast, rice, fruit, and mashed potatoes. You can also drink juices to help you settle your stomach if you really don’t feel like eating at the moment.
Breast tenderness is another common first trimester discomfort. This refers to the swelling, soreness, and sensitivity that you feel in your breasts which usually begin between the fourth and sixth week. This tenderness occurs as a result of all the changes in your body especially the increase in hormone levels during pregnancy. Since your uterus continuously grows and presses directly on the bladder, this leads to frequent urination. This could be very uncomfortable especially if you are at work or in a middle of something important. To deal with this first trimester discomfort, consider these solutions.
oAvoid diuretics such as tea, coffee, and colas which contain caffeine. These liquids can make you urinate frequently.
oDo Kegel exercises. These exercises can help strengthen the muscles that keep your urethra closed. Do these at least 10-20 times in a row, three times a day.
oDon’t drink fluids right before bedtime. This can help you avoid those frequent nighttime visits to the bathroom. You should drink more fluids earlier in the day and be sure to drink the adequate amount.
oEmpty your bladder completely. Do not try to hold it when you still feel that urge to urinate.
During the first trimester of pregnancy, you will easily feel more exhausted since a growing child may take up a lot of your energy. Doing simple chores will not be easier than the usual and you may be surprised that even getting out of bed in the morning will take so much effort.
